Medford's Living History

The Meadow Glen Mall in association with the Medford Arts Center Inc hosted Medford's Living History and invited local area artists to exhibit their work for the general public. The event highlighted Medford's rich history as a city that was home to several artists and theaters.

The 2008 Doc Kountze Festival was held on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 from 11 AM to 6 PM at the McGlynn Middle School, located at 3004 Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford, Massachusetts. Click here to downlaod the map and directions in PDF. We were honored to present two full-length feature films: SPIDER JOHN KOERNER: BEEN HERE... DONE THAT, produced and directed by Don McGlynn, about renowned traditional folk and country blues artist/guitarist Spider John Koerner, and THE ETERNAL ROAD: AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE PAST, a documentary film by Ron Frank, with music by Kurt Weill arranged and performed by Paul Lehrman. In addition, we showcased one short film THE SECRET GARDEN, directed by Sean Carroll. We were also thrilled to have TEA WITH MARY CASSATT, a theatrical performance by local performer Laura Duggan.

Laura R. Duggan received her Master of Arts in Theatre Education from the Emerson College. Her one-woman play, Tea with Mary Cassatt, premiered at Emerson's Green Theatre in December of 2006. Mrs. Duggan is a Massachusetts certified Secondary History teacher with over 10 years of experience working with "at risk" students in Boston. Mrs. Duggan's students had displayed their artwork for many years in the Doc Kountze Festival window art displays for years. Other plays written by her include a musical entitled Give Thanks, which tells the story of the Wampanoag Indians and Pilgrims at Plymouth and a series of parable plays based on bible stories. Twelve-year-old Kyla Middleton is the recipient of a $20,000 scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association. The talented Medford teenager spent some childhood years with her mother and two siblings at a homeless shelter. In spite of her hardship, she was still a top academic performer in her class. In her effort to promote support for the homeless, she performed with renowned celebrities such as Natalie Merchant and Jon Bon Jovi in Give Us Your Poor. Click here for more information.

OUR MOVIE. Johnathan Carr grew up in Medford and graduated from Emerson College in 2004 with a bachelor of arts in filmmaking. While at Emerson he co-founded WARLORDS a production club devoted to making action films, received an EVVY award for a 16mm short, and an EVVY nomination for a TV series that aired on the Emerson Channel.
